MIMA: Focus on User Experience

Author: Lori Highby

Last night a few members of the Keystone Click team and I attended the Milwaukee Interactive Marketing Agency’s event, Focus on User Experience. We took away some great information on how and why having both the business owner and product users involved in the user experience design is so important to the success of the product.

Mike Kornackiof Johnson Controls started off the event with some great points about how companies are constantly competing with one another to release products that, in essence, do exactly the same thing. In order to really make an impression on users, you’re going to need to stand out. Users will tell you what they want, but you will need to do some work to find out what they NEED in order to make their experience better.

The remainder of the event focused on the importance of research and collaboration in user experience design. Often times user experience is undervalued and stakeholders don’t understand their users needs. By hosting a user experience workshop you will build relationships and a sense of ownership in the design process. Brady Pierzchalskifrom Laughlin Constable summed this up perfectly by saying “When you bring a stakeholder into a workshop they can see the users needs and it’s really powerful.”

Lastly, Lyman Casey of Centralis stressed the need for user experience beyond the product and avoiding obstacles to get to where we should be with user experience. He ended the night with a great quote about how every single one of us are responsible for UX, “Who should own user experience? Yes!”

We look forward to implementing some of the strategies we learned last night and attending future MIMAevents as a team! Talk with us today to create your marketing strategy!
